How Can Canker Sores In The Mouth And Tongue Be Treated?

Hi, I eat healthy, haven t changed my diet, get enough sleep, and exercise. All of a sudden I am getting canker sores and cuts in my mouth and on the edge of my tongue. I have been rinsing with salt water but it seems like all of a sudden i have multiple cuts in my mouth. Why is this happening? How can I prevent more from appearing?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Sores in mouth can be due to allergic reaction to some food item, vitamin B complex deficiency, stress, poor digestion and bowel movements or viral infection.

We can eliminate stress and viral infection (as you are not having other symptoms associated with viral infection) for your case. However, you should start taking Vitamin B complex supplements (B-Folcin) once a day for at least a month. If it will be due to deficiency of vitamin, the ulcers will heal. You should also start Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) once a day for 5 days to control the allergic reaction, in case if it is.

In addition, if you are suffering from constipation or poor bowel movements, you should take laxatives or stool softeners for some time which will help in reduction of ulcer episodes.

By the time you have ulcers in mouth, you can apply local Benzocaine gel (Mucopain) over the ulcers which will numb the area for a while and will enhance healing. In addition, if applied before meals, you can eat without the burning and pain sensations.

If these options do not help, you should consult a dentist for physical examination of the ulcers. You may need to go for blood test to detect vitamin B12 level and allergy test to evaluate if you are allergic to some food item.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you rapid recovery!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
