How Can Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea With Colon Flatulence Be Treated?

my son is 6 and had severe abdomial pain, diarrhea and lots of gas in his colon. His pediatrician said he has constipation and jus gave him suppository. He is still having pain from massive amount of gas but his dr. said gas-x wont help since it s in his colon and not his stomach. Is there any thing he can take to speed up the gas process because right now it is trapped in his system. If he can t take any thing, how long will it take for gas to eventually pass?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

Probably your child has a giardiasis or amoebiasis as suggested by abdominal distention or bloating gassy abdomen, cramps.

He needs to be examined for giardiasis by doing a stool test, then he needs a course of oral metronidazole three times a day for five days.

Or oral Tinidazole twice a day for five days give him this drug with an antispasmodic drug like dicyclomine to relieve the pain and spasm.

Metrogyl causes a metallic taste in the mouth.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
