Hello,

* There is no role of simethicone in diarrhoea with IBS.

* Additional guidelines for best relief

- drink more liquids as possible in form of boiled water, lemon juice, coconut water, buttermilk

- strict dietary measures to avoid all spices, non-veg, junk items

- probiotics with lactobacillus with homemade fresh yoghurt

- avoid stress, anxiety (major provokers of GI hypermotility)

- avoid smoking, alcohol if consuming

- prescription of antibiotic as metronidazole or Rifaximin serve best in the majority of the cases with an acute flare-up.

- the need for specific IBS modifying drugs as sulfasalazine, Mesacol or else, need clinical assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
