How Can A Persistent Rash On The Foot Be Treated?

For a good month I have had a rash on top of my feet. My doctor put me on antibiotics and Nystatin cream. These are not clearing up my rash. It itches like crazy and is very red. Vitamin e helps the itch some and aloe Vera helps but my rash isn t healing. What do you recommend? I am miserable.

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.

I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
The itchiness in your feet can be caused by different causes and the most likely is yeast infection, eczema and dermatitis.
You have already taken treatment for yeast infection (the nystatin cream), I am not sure of the timing and if you had the proper application.
What I would suggest is:
1. make sure you do not use soaps/detergents or parfumed chemichals on the skin of your feet. Wash your feet with warm water (not hot as it dries the skin)
2. Use a moisturizing cream to keep the skin hydrated- hydrated skin is healthier and does not crack as easy as the dry one. Use it on the area especially after washing the feet and a couple of times during the day
3. A combined cream with an antifungal and steroid might help with the rash and the ithciness. Use it a thin layer twice a day for 10 days, you can apply it on the area and 2 cm around the red area.
4. Keep your feet clean and with cotton socks if you need to wear socks and allow air to enter to your feet.
5. If itchiness is too intense put something cold on the area to help with the urge to scratch. Scratching the area might cause secondary bacterial infection
6. If no improvement with the treatment or any worsening you will need to see a doctor.

Hope this is helpful and answers to your question

Best regards,
