Hospitalised With Stiff Person Syndrome / Teteanus And Being Treated With Valium.

My sister has been in the hospital since Jan. 1, 2014 Basically non responsive and we have no conclusive answers. Vitals are fine except for BP fluctuating. Ran every test nothing shows up. she had a shunt put in July 2013 for Normal Pressure Hrdrocephelia (sp) the had her left knee replaced in November and in 5 days she would not wake up. they thought it was her pain meds and she woke up within 24 hours. Now they think she has Stiff person syndrome or possible Teteanus. She is in a Longview, texas hospital under the care of a nurologist and he is treating her with valium. I have no answers of where to go to seek help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi. Since the patient is under care of Neurologist, be assured to get a proper help and diagnosis. Valium is the mainstay of treatment as it acts as a muscle relaxant too. Another remote possibility is of an infection in the brain set up by an infection. They may need to go for spinal fluid analysis.
