My husband has hearing aids for each ear, he recently discovered that he had a hole in one of his eardrums. He went to a personal physical not a specialist because his ear was hurting him so badly he could not pu his hearing aid in that ear. The doctor told him to do nothing, that it would heal. It s been 3 days so far and the pain has not lessened...what should we do?
I have gone through your query regarding hole in ear drum of your husband, he is having hole in his other ear as well therefore he is using hearing aid. recentaly his one ear is giving pain so he consulted family physician and family doctor has diagnose it as infection of ear.
Now to manage it you should consult your ENT doctor, for clinical examination of ear and to investigate it to find out weather he is having only hole in his ear drums or there is other problems as well. Now a days different defects are managed by these operations-
(a) Hole in ear drum-- Can be treated by MYRINGOPLASTY operation.
(b) Hole in ear drum Plus damaged ear ossicles-- Can be treated by TYMPANOPLASTY operation.
(c) hole in ear drum plus involvement of inner ear or acoustic nerve --In such cases above operation will not be much helpful so here options are Hearing aid / cochlear implant.
I hope your query is now well explained.
Regards.
