Can I Clean Ears With Over The Counter Solution?

I have some hearing loss,doctors say when they look inside my ears they dont see ear wax. but I m concern that maybe it is deep into the ear drum,and my ear itch. I suject my ears may need cleaning they say no. Can I clean my ears with over the counter solution.
