History Of Cancer. Have Bipolar Disorder. Can A General Physician Prescribe Depakote?
hi, I recovered from cancer and chemotherapy. I was daignosed 4 weeks ago with bi-polar and i am feeling particularly low mood as my daughter moved away. My gp says he cannot prescribe depakote that I was feeling well on some years ago. He said i must go to a phyciatrist but did not make an appointment. Can a gp usually prescribe this medication? thank you, i mean no disrespect but i need a specialist i feel and i will see my own gp tomorrow if i can. i am covered by the nhs. thank you very much.
Hi ! Your GP is right in expressing his inability to prescribe Depakote, as it is a drug which could cause problems if taken indiscriminately. Therefore, it should be prescribed by a Psychiatrist who can keep constant observation and follow up of the patient he is dealing with and can also judge the need for this drug in a particular patient. WIshing you an early recovery.
