High Blood Pressure. On Metoprolol And Atenolol. Continue?
2nd month of metoprolol. Experienced increase in BP. Was contained @ about 110/85 on atenolol. Bgan dropping to 100/70 or so was changed to metrorolol 50mg. BP jumped to 160/120. Highest 170/125. Lowest 140/110. Doc wants me to stay on this. I prefer to return to atenolol. I do not feel safe participating in exercise/sports even golf. BP came back down only when I stopped this med and returned to 50mg atenolol. (leftovers)
Dear sir/ Madam Thanks for writing to HCM. It happens that a particular drug or brand may not be effective for a patient. Although metoprolol and atenolol are from same group and have similar action. I would still recommend that you should keep your physician in loop and must not change the drug on your own. You can always explain him that metoprolol as not as effective as the other drug. Atenolol has certain issues which are not thought to be associated with metoprolol. This could have prompted your physician to stop it. Sincerely Sukhvinder
