High BP. Taking Benicar, Atenolol, Clonidine. What Is The Reason?

My blood pressure is fairly constant during the day, at least for my age (66 male) - Numbers range from 126 to 140 (systolic). But during the night when I'm asleep, they spike to unacceptable levels (168-194 systolic). I will awake around early morning hours, take my pressure, and it has spiked to abnormal levels. I am faithful with my meds, but they don't keep the high numbers down during the nighttime. Meds include 40mg Benicar, 50mg Atenolol and .1 clonidine if BP rises over 150. I am in good health, often road biking 20 to 25 miles a day and lift free weight for 30 minutes a day. Is there something else I need to do to drive my BP numbers down?

Hello sir,
Your history is suggestive that your blood pressure control during the later part of the day is not adequate. Studies have shown that early morning rise of blood pressure is associated with increased risk of stroke. I would recommend addition of a night dose of antihypertensive .Please consult your physican for the same.
Also renal parameter evaluation would be prudent since you require three drugs for your BP control.
