Hemorrhagic Cyst On Ovary, Strained BM, Pressure In Abdomen, Overweight. On Birth Control. Try Progesterone?
Hello, I have a hemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary that has caused me to bleed a week prior to my period every time there is pressure on my abdomen, during sexual intercourse and if I strain during a bowel movement. I have been told this is caused because my hormones are affected therefore my uterine lining is unstable. I live in a foreign country where birth control pills are sold over the counter so I am trying to decide which one to use in order to "rest" my ovary and allow the cyst to heal. I am 44 years old, have normal periods and slightly overweight and smoke 1-2 packages of cigarettes socially per week. Should I try progesterone only or a combination pill? Should I try one at all?
Hi, Thanks for the query. If you are symptomatic hemorrhagic cyst, better to go for laparoscopic removal of the cyst. If you want to postpone the surgery, with your doctor's advice you can go for hormonal pills. According to your age, weight and habits better to choose progesterone only pill for limited period of time. You must consult your gynecologist before starting the pills and with her advice only you have to take the pills. Take care.
