Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Having Seizure Frequently. Taking Medication. Should I Meet Specialist Doctor Each Time Having Seizure?
My daughter had a seizure last night and has woken this morning and had yet another. When she had her first five seizures, I raced her to the hospital each time. The doctor on duty recommended I not run her up each time she has one but get her condition managed by a specialist and medication. We have since seen a specialist and are still trialling the appropriate medication and dosage. She is 12 and growing rapidly. My concern is the seizures are closer together. My question is: Do I take her up to the hospital. Do I make an appointment with her specialist instead and allow her to rest.
It is imperative that you have a good neurologist to help you manage this problem. The neurologist should be able to instruct you about your daughter's chronic care (ie: how to control and prevent future seizures) as well as what to do if a seizure occurs. Typically there is no need to go to the hospital for every seizure. However, if they are occurring more frequently, then she is not well controlled and must have her medication adjusted. Your neurologist should be able to do this for you.
