Having Pain, Swelling And Bruising In Elbow. Suggest

I am a 47 year old female. I fell on the ice three weeks ago and broke the fall with my elbow. It hurt immediately, but had no brusing. Since that time, it only hurt when I would bear weight on it (lean on it) or bump it. Yesterday, I bumped it three times. It now aches alot and the area hurts when I touch it. Today, there is no swelling or brusing. Just aching, and pain with touch or leaning.

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

It is likely that there is just contusion of surrounding soft tissue

without trauma of bony structures.

Ice wrapped in a cloth within the first days could be of help. But then

all you need is to rest the hand and some pain killers. Routine pain killers that i

give to my patients with contusions or trauma include paracetamol, codeine

or ibuprofen.

You might consider to meet a doctor for an x-ray to be sure there is no bony

lesion associated.

Hope this helps you.
Best regards

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
A major fracture can be ruled out as you dont have swelling, any visible deformity and you are able to perform elbow movements normally.
Propably, it could be a soft tissue contusion which will resolve within 3 weeks.

* apply ice packs at the site of maximum tenderness
* avoid positions which cause you pain
* analgesic and antiinflammatory medications will help

If it is not resolving with the above measures, consult an orthosurgeon

Wishing you a quick recovery.
