Having Ingrown Hair On Tailbone. Do These Inevitably Turn Into Cysts Or Can They Remain Separate Entities?

My daughter probably has an ingrown hair on her tailbone, since she has had one before and was seen by her doctor. Do these inevitably turn into cysts or can they remain separate entities? I am noticing a lot of conflicting diagnoses online between the ingrown hair symptoms and the colodinal (sp) cyst. It has erupted this morning and is draining a little with yellowish pus. Should she go to the emergency room today or can she wait till tomorrow to see her doctor? Is it recommended that she sees a doctor at all or can it go away on its own?
Thank you

Hi,
This may be a pilonidal abscess and your daughter should see a doctor for confirmation. She can wait until tomorrow. In the meantime, she should keep the area clean and dry. The doctor may wish to prescribe antibiotics.
