Having Coeliac Disease. Middle Knuckle Of Index Finger Is Dry,red, itchy. What This Might Be?

Hi there, the middle knuckle of my index finger on one hand is dry, slightly cracked, red and swollen. It has been like this for about three weeks. Sometimes it is itchy and stiff and a little uncomfortable, but not painful. Could you suggest what this might be? I'm 22 and female, no other joint or skin problems, no medication, the only health problem I suffer with is Coeliac Disease. Many thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Skin problems are common in celiac disease. Dermatitis herpetiformis and atopic dermatitis are more common. Vitamin deficiencies due to poor absorption may also cause skin problems. Dermatitis herpetiformis vesicles and crust eruption usually with burning, stinging, and intense itching but it can be asymptomatic rarely.Atopic dermatitis presents with itchy and inflamed skin, swelling, weeping, cracking, crusting and scaling.
You can apply topical steroid ointment and moisturizers.
You should visit dermatologist for physical examination and biopsy may be needed.
Hope it helps.
Take Care!
