Have Swollen Elbow, Forearm. Hurts When Touched. Suggested Bursitis, Gout. Blood Test Fine. On Colchicine. Suggestions?

Hello Doctor,

My elbow and a bit my forearm have been swollen for 10 days now. I have full mobility, the only things is that it hurst when I touch it, or if I try to move it while wearing a shirt for instance.

I have seen two doctors so far. The first one told me it was bursitis but did not drain my elbow cause it was not swollen enough, he only gave me anti inflamatory pills. But I doubt it is bursitis because my elbow is not swollen like a golf ball, and my forearm is also slighty swollen. The second doctor told me it was the gout, but I did blood test a monthy ago, and my uric acid was perfectly fine. He gave me colchicine pills, but so far it hasn’t had any effect.

I’m kind of confused.

Thank you in advance,

Best,

JP

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Your only complaint is pain in elbow with forearm from last 10 days.
At present it is very difficult to evaluate diagnosis because incomplete history .
No doubt uric acid is within normal limit and bursitis may not present.
As you have not mentioned about any injury to elbow so chances of bursitis are remote.
This may be due to ,
1 Osteoarthritis ( however most common site of infection is knee joint ).
2 Rheumatoid arthritis ( initially small joints involves)
3 Tuberculosis ( if mild swelling and pain ).
In my opinion consult another orthopaedician and get their opinion after following examination , blood for C B C , E S R , calcium ( osteoporosis), R A factor.
Get in X ray + C T SCAN joint , if pain reoccurs.
Good luck.
