Have Swelling And Pain In Nose. Taking Predisolone And Papase. What Could Be Wrong?

When I woke up on Mon 29 Apr the upper bridge of my nose felt sort more to the left side then started swelling and felt so tender i can't touch it...since i use reading glass it hurts as i can feel the pressure of my glasses against the swell. I went to see the dr on 2 May because I was coming down with a headache and slight fever. He prescribe predisolone allergy and papase for swelling. The swell subsided less painful but then I got the pain and swell on the right upper side of my nose. I have never experienced this before what does this mean. Kindly advise what is wrong with me. Thank you. Celine

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M.

I read your query regarding swelling and pain in nose. you are most probably having vestibulitis of nose, this is a painful condition and here I would like to tell you that both nostrils, upper and lower lips are calld as DANGER AREA of face. Because venous return from here goes through angular vein to interior of cranium to cavernous sinus of brain therefore any infection from above danger area may reach to cavernous sinus. In this way sinus gets thrombose and a critical condition named as CAVERNOUS SINUS THROMBOSIS develops. In this disease facial swelling at the bridge of nose appears with severe headache.

If this critical condition is not treated properly disease may complicate to threat to life.

Here in your case your vestibulitis is initially improved by medical treatment but later Swelling appears at the bridge of nose either due to thrombosis of angular vein of cavernous sinus it self.

I would like to suggest you that you should consult ENT specialist for through examination and relevent investigations and finaly treatment to prevent emergency.

Regards.
