Have Pain In Injection Site After Giving Blood. No Strength In Hand. What To Do?

Gave blood a month and a week ago and the lady who drew blood from me stuck the needle in my arm couldn't get blood in the vile so moved the needle around and she hit something in my arm that hurt so extremely it made me jump out of the chair , since then the injected site has been tender and I feel as if there is a stinging throbbing feeling in my arm it hurts so bad I can't even sleep, the pain is the same as day two and no one has been able to help me. I have no strength in my hand now can't work now due to the pain and I can't do normal things like brush my hair hold a cup due to the pain. Please help me what can this be could she have possibly struck a nerve..?

hi there, the blood for blood donation is taken from the cubital fossa where two large veins are found, next to these veins are also two large nerves like the radial nerve and the median nerves along with few cutaneous branches. There is a possiblity that the median nerve or the cutaneous nerve might have been touched by the needle giving rise to the stinging pain and inability to use the arm. I would suggest that you use a thrombophobe ointment to decrease the hematoma and keep the arm in a sling for a few days and give it rest. Nerves usually regenrate slowly and it might take a while for the symptoms to subside. You may take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen to decrease the pain and inflammation. If you do not get relief in a week or so then visit a neurologist and get an expert opinion.Take care.
