Have Fishy Smell During Urination. No Medication Now. What Could Be The Reason?

I am a 19 year old female, recently some times when urinating there is a strong fishy smell, I used a test kit and it said the PH of my vagina is normal, Its only sometimes, I've noticed If I drink water and then use the bathroom again it wont smell. I've also noticed it recently after consuming alcohol the night before on each occasion. Should I be worried about this? I don't have any vaginal discharge, itching, burning or any pain whatsoever.

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Please understand that fishy smelling urine is not a hydration-related problem that can be solved by drinking more fluids or a hygiene problem that can be solved by taking extra care in regards to your hygiene.

This is most probably due to an infection. Either bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis, and will have to be treated with their respective treatment regimens.

I advice you to visit your doctor, who will thoroughly examine you and diagnose you. Once the diagnosis is made, you will be treated accordingly. Please do not take this lightly, as most individuals who ignore this develop a resistance to the medication that would have otherwise helped in treating the infection. This makes it very difficult to treat the infection in the future.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
