Have Dizziness. Can Holding Nose And Blowing With Mouth Cause Dizziness?

Hi, is it safe to hold my nose, mouth closed and blow, to pop my ears? When I do this the right ear pops but the left ear feels like more pressure accumulates instead of popping. I have been waking up dizzy, as if gravity is weighing me down when I walk and if I turn my head side to side I feel dizzy. Can holding my nose and blowing with my mouth closed be causing me the dizziness? Thank you.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to Health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan and I will try to help you with your problem

As you have rightly observed, the blowing of mouth with closed nose raises intense pressure within the ear and the throat. You must thus be very careful when you do this as you may even injure the drum of the ear!

This maneuver is also associated with giddiness in some people normally but frequent giddiness requires further examination. This is especially since turning of the head is causing giddiness in your case. You may be suffering from a condition called the positional paroxysmal vertigo or BPPV.

So do not blow your mouth after holding your nose and if the giddiness still persists then you must consult an ENT surgeon

hope this helps

regards

Dr Sriram nathan
