Have Balance And Vision Issues. Had An Elevated Heart Rate, Difficulty In Breathing. Will She Recover Completely?

hye, my grandmother She s 78, in generally good health. She deals with some balance issues and some vision issues, but overall good. Nothing wrong with the critical systems. Last Wed. night she had an elevated heart rate that just would not settle down, so the ambulance came and took her to the hospital. She then had some difficulty breathing. She s admitted in the HKL left in a deep coma after a series of strokes caused by a brain haemorrhage, doctors swiftly concluded she was beyond help. Drips that had been supplying fluids and steroids were withdrawn and currently on a breathing machine. My concern is that will she be fully recover ? How long does approximately it used to take full recovery? tq so much.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear relative,

Thanks for the query. Unfortunately, by the description it sounds like a massive stroke in an elderly patient, and the chances of meaningful recovery to a good quality of life are very, very small most of the time. In many cases, a decision should be made whether or not to continue support on a ventilator, since it may prolong a life with no quality, little hope and many times futile care.

Hope this helps, yours truly,
