Had Protected Sex. Fever, Chills, Sweating, Runny Nose, Sneezing, Headache. Worried About HIV

i had a sex with sex worker 3 months ago by using a condom, and took it out well after intercourse and washed my genital well. and after 4,5 days i got low grade fever not associated with chills and sweating but it went off in 2 episodes i also had runny nose sneezing headache..but no history of rash the symptoms subsided after a week after the steam inhalation and other home remedies.and then after about 2 months i was diagnose generalised anxiety disorder after an unpleasant happening in my vacations..since then i started searching on net and came to know about acute retroviral sympotms and then began to worry about the previous symptom after intercourse and got stressed a lot and began to add new symptom right now i have yellowis coloration on my tongue which doesnt bleed when scrapped off and is not painful as well..should i worry about hiv? were those symptoms of rhinitis or anything else? and are the yellow coloration thrush or just a bacterial infection due to dry mouth caused by anxiety and stress? I am a medical student..23 yrs old

Hi,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to HCM.

It appears from your query that you are stressed regarding the possibility of HIV infection.
The very first information to provide you is your symptoms do not match up with acute seroconversive illness of HIV. As you are yourself a medical student , you must be knowing about this term. You very wisely used condom during the whole sexual act, so the possibility of HIV infection is nil in your case.
As per your problem the first episode of fever started well after 5 days of intercourse. HIV seroconversive symptoms generally begins weeks after exposure and at the earliest in very rare cases have been seen in 2-3 weeks. Candidal thrush is whitish in color and not yellow.
All of your symptoms are either related to simple rhinitis or others are part of acute stress related to fear of HIV.
Kindly reassure yourself. To give you the best advise - go for simple ELISA for HIV. Though definitly it would be negative but is the best time and method for relieving any anxiety related to HIV.

Hope these informations will help.
