Going Through Menopause, Intercourse Is Painful, Used Lubricant, Estrace, No Help. On Estrace. Any Other Options ?
I am a healthy 62 year old woman and went through menopause at 55. When I discussed the fact that intercourse is painful to my gynocologist she said that my vaginal tissue is thinning and getting less blood flow and she prescribed Estrace saying she hoped it would help. After using it for three months, it did not seem to make any difference and using a lubricant has not helped either. I have just started using Premarin and hope this will give me better results. The sensitivity and discomfort beginning about 3 years ago. I am widowed and have not been in a sexual relationship until about six months ago. Is there anything you can suggest that will allow me to enjoy sexual intimacy again.
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. In post menopausal syndrome there develops vasomotor symptoms and genitourinnary symptoms. Due to less amount of estradiol & estrone hormone there develops dryness in vagina , hence patient feels pain during sexual intercourse. F S H increases. Now either take hormone therapy or 2nd treatment for postmenopausal syndrome . Consult your Gynaecologist and get her opinion. Hope I have answered your question. If further any question I will help. Good luck. Dr. HET
