Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been drinking 200ML of vodka with 50 ml of rum every day and whiskey on week ends for last 3 years. I stopped for almost 4 months in between when i was only drinking 3 drinks over friday ad saturday..I had a endoscopy to detect the reason for my frequent bowel movements and they found i have mild gastritis with some infections. I was treated with antibiotics and i was not drinking on week days during that medication.. I am back to the same drinking habit now. I don know if the amount if liquor i consume is bad ..but every morning i feel like i am going to stop it the very day..but as soon as i come back from my work i bring a small bottle with me and drink my self while my wife takes care of cooking..i do feel weak now..any suggestions would be helpful before i see the doctor. I am ready to describe all symptoms if you would like to know. Thanks
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).
None of the amount of alcohol is described safe from liver point of view. Alcohol usually do not cause frequent bowel movements. Since you are drinking since last 3 years I will like to advise you to get ultrasound abdomen and liver function tests to see for any harm in liver. Generalized weakness may be due to alcohol induced hepatitis.
Few thing I want to know :1.What is your stool consistency 2.If you have lost any weight 3. Any abdominal pain
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
