Hi, welcome to HCM.
First of stop using heating pad it will increase pain by increasing inflammation. Instead use a cold compression. It will decrease pain.
You have suffered a superficial injury. No need to special care. You can take on the counter analgesics for pain relief. Take rest for 1 days. Pain will subside and also bruise will be smooth.
If having persistent breathlessness then need to consult orthopaedician to rule out rib fracture.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

General Surgeon Dr. Grzegorz Stanko's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

As the rib cage is quite stable structure, minor fractures can be left unknown. Moreover, rib fracture can be a reason of pneumothorax and give shortness of breath. Moreover, you have had head trauma as well. It is advisable at your case to visit your doctor and have ribs X-ray, chest X-ray and neurological examination. Head CT might be necessary as well. Especially if you suffer from headaches, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, tiredness.

Hope this will help.
Regards.

General & Family Physician Dr. Azhar's  Response
Hi,
This shortness of breadth may be due to trauma. To exclude must have an xray chest.
If the head hit the stairs have an xray skull to rule out any injury to the head.
If there is an element of head injury such as vommiting or severe headache or nasal or ear discharge immediately visit the hospital to have CT scan of the brain.

I hope I am successful in solving your query If you have more you can ask me.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Azhar Sattar
