How to treat stuck throat sensation?

For the past 5 years I have had a sensation at the upper back part of my throat. It feels like something is stuck there, and because of it, I got surgery about 2 years ago to remove my tonsils. This however did nothing as the sensation and bad breath continued. I also have been diagnosed with GERD. It also gets worse when I drink alcohol and certain foods. Other symptons include fatigue, nausea, vertigo. My questions are: 1) Can food or tonsil stones get stuck in adenoids? 2) Can this affect the immune system? What would you recommend?

Hi,

Since there are no tonsils, the tonsilloliths are not formed and cannot get stuck in adenoids nor adenoids develop stones. I hope this is clear. About immunity, such things do not alter immunity. Immunity is the overall system of body to fight infection, stress and anxiety also.

Feeling of something in throat for a long time of 5 years needs the following:
- CT scan of neck and throat to know for any growth
- Endoscopy to see the inner part of pharynx
- Clinical evaluation
- Psychological evaluation if most important if the above investigations are normal
If a cause is found, it will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
