Exercising To Keep In Shape. While Exercising Felt Heart Pain. Diagnosed Mild Mitral Regurgitation. Reason? Continue Exercise?

Hello,
I started working out at gym/ running 2 weeks ago (day at gym/day with some jogging - one day rest in a week). I am pretty much out of shape. Today at the gym I felt heart pain for a moment. I decided to stop and do one lighter excercise. After one set of it while resting I felt like my heart stoped for a moment, like blood coming from the brain and I almost fainted. I stopped and went home.
Couple years ago I was diagnosed with mild Mitral regurgitation but the doctor told me not to worry. What may be the reason of my problem and Should I continue on excercising?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
After going through your history, basically there are two medical issues a valvular defect detected that is mitral regurgitation as your doctor told not to worry it must be mild and detected by Echocardiography and doppler study.
If your cardiologist says it is mild and just keep a watch and regular check up maybe twice a year to keep track of progress of MR.
If you are overweight and started exercise please continue to do so but go slow for exercise and gradually increase exercise.
Please also take care of diet low calories and avoiding fats and fried items and animal fats.
To lose weight is long term process so just do not lose heart and continue to take care of diet and exercise and you will improve gradually.
Please do not forget to have cardiologist check up if everything is fine.
Please take care.
Good Luck.
