Done Ecography Of Transvaginal, Thickened Endometrial Stripe, Been Bleeding. Prescribed Provera. What Is Wrong?

Hi. I m a 37 year-old woman who had recently an echography transvaginal. The endovaginal ultrasound reveal a small intramural myoma mid posterior uterine wall and a thickened endometrial stripe. I had this medical procedure because I have been bleeding for three weeks by now. I was prescribed Provera for 21 days, twice a day but with no results. How bad is my condition? What should I do now?

Hi,

Do not worry as fibroids are common tumors and they are not cancerous. The biggest problem with them is they cause bleeding and can get big so sometimes they need to be removed.
The thick endometrium is due to action of estrogen which is also causes fibroids.
The definitive surgery that will give you a cure is removing the fibroids [myomectomy] or removing the uterus with the fibroids [hysterectomy].
Small fibroids can be managed with medicines in some cases. If Depo Provera is not helping other drugs like lupron help to decrease their size. Other treatment option is embolization of uterine artery where the blood vessel that is feeding the tumor is blocked and the tumor cells die.
So you do have a choice of treatment options and decide about the best course after a detailed discussion with your doctor.
If a patient like you comes to my clinic then I advise surgery as first line treatment to women that have completed their childbearing. This is because the medical management usually tends to fail and most patients ultimately land up with hysterectomy.

Hope this was helpful. It was a pleasure answering your query.
