went in for ultasound at 6 weeks and was measuring 5 weeks 2 days with gestational sac and yolk sac and Dr had me come a week later in which I was measuring 6 weeks 4 days but embryo was barely visable with no heartbeat. I was told the baby is not growing fast enough and their should be a heartbeat. His best guess is a misscarriage but we are to come back in a week. Has anyone had this happen?. I am now experiencing migraines and thinking maybe I will miscarry. This is my 2nd pregnancy and I also miscarried with the first. Is it possible the embryo is just behind? I am really confused. I would not think a doctor would say that unless it was very likely going to happen.
At six weeks, the presence of gestational sac with no embryo nor heartbeats is highly suggestive of a condition called as Blighted ovum. This is a condition in which there is gestational sac without embryo in it. Such pregnancies do not grow. If it does not get terminated by itself, you will have to get it terminated - by medicines or by surgical technique like MVA aspiration or suction evacuation.
Your doctor may confirm the diagnosis by a repeat ultrasonography after a week or so. If still the embryonic pole or the heart beats are missing, you will have to undergo termination of pregnancy.
I hope this helps you.
