Does Taking Expired Pills Cause Allergic Reactions?

I am 33 yrs old and I had never suffered allergic reactions to any medicine. Recently I had a paracetamol and had a heavy allergic reaction to it. After being treated to it I was told that in all probability the reaction was not to the pill. However the other day I had a day nurse pill (later I found out it was expired) and had a similar reaction though it was milder. Once again I never had any trouble with these pills before. Could the reaction be related to the fact that the pills were expired or could I have suddenly became allergic to sone content in such pills?
