Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does primolut-N increase the size of fibroids (does it lead to fibroid growth?) I took primolut-N (to stop heavy bleading) for 3 months and gained 1.3kg/month in weight. Also, the size of my fibroids (two) increased by about 2cm (each) in 3 months. Should I stop the treatment ?
Yes, it may increase the size of fibroid. Primolut-N is a synthetic form of female hormone progesterone. It acts by inhibiting the growth of the lining of the womb and hence useful in reducing heavy bleeding due to fibroid.
It can also promote growth of fibroid as well weight gain apparently due to retention of sodium and water. Consult your doctor for further evaluation and for possible surgical treatment.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
