Does Papillary Microcarcinoma Need Surgery?

I'm 51 yrs old, 5'3 1/2, 180 lbs. I was diagnosed with malignant papillary microcarcinoma in Jan, 2011. I have exactly 3 nodes on my left side of neck and 5 nodes on the right side of my neck , 7mm parotid gland mas, and a borderline enlarging node near my carotid artery, plus I have another 2mm node on my right thyroid lobe. Should I have surgery?

Development of nodes is not a good sign in thyroid cancer and means that the cancer has spread outside the thyroid gland. Besides, even if these nodes do not harbour cancer then also you fall in the high risk category due to your age. For both these reasons, it is advisable that you immediately undergo surgery which will include complete removal of your thyroid gland and the nodes on both sides of the neck.
