Does Loud, High Pitched Noise In Ear While Having Constant Tinnitus Be Connected?

Okay so I woke up deaf in my right ear about a year ago for no reason whatsoever. I ve had constant tinnitus ever since I woke up deaf in my right ear. So today in my Taekwondo class, I got hit on the head twice. The first it happened, my right ear gave this high pitched noise that was somewhere in the middle of being soft and loud. The second time it happened, however, this really loud, high-pitched noise occurred. It lasted for about 5 seconds and then I got slightly dizzy afterwards. The noise sounded almost the same as my tinnitus. Could these two things be connected somehow? Also, what significance does this have to my deafness?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of waking up one morning with deaf right ear and tinnitus, got a hit on head twice and the nose was there, wants to know whether connected. Sudden deafness with tinnitus one year back indicate the problem with internal ear apparatus of ear that is cochlear apparatus or the nerve or the brain; can be vascular or tumor. Hence, I would advise you the following:
- Consult an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation
- Audiometry
- CT and MRI that is also called combo-study of brain and mastoids. All these will give the exact diagnosis and thus allow proper management.

Yes, these can be connected as you have asked for as hit on skull during Taekwondo can be quite hard.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
