Does Lamictal Cause Mood Swings And Uncontrollable Rage?

my name is jacob and I turn 21 in january 2015. Bout 6 yrs ago I had my first seizure. Afterihad three more n the next year/2yrs we decided to consult a neurologist. After a bunch off EEGs and sleep deprived EEGs she diagnosed me with epileptic seizure disorder. They were only happening n my sleep and fairly short at most 20-30 secs. and put me on lamictal XR. Since she has upped my dosage to one 50mg and one 200mg a day. For the last 6 yrs since my diagnoses and taking medicateion they have been controlled but her n the last few months I have suddenly noticed and extreme change in my mood. I have always been slighty short tempered but now its almost no fuse and just the slightest thing sets me off. I feel tense and almost amped up everyday,to the point where I just lost my job yesterday becuz I literally beat the snot out of my foreman, a grown man 38 yrs old and a pretty stout guy. Im 6 3 an 200lbs strong as an ox but lean athletic build. Yet I had so much rage it seemed there was no stopping and I messed him up, bad. I need to know if this sort of hostility or change in mood could be a side efdect of the lamictal it just has takin a long time to creep up on me enough to notice a symptom.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello! Lamictal in general is used in patients who suffer from seizures with prolonged agitation. But there are few cases that agitation has been the drug's effect, like also depression and emotional lability. Anyway in most cases these changes are symptoms of the disease, epilepsy itself. Epilepsy and mood disorders are associated with each other very frequently. In my opinion you should see your neurologist and undergo some new clinical evaluations and examinations (like EEG or polysomnography) to see if the seizure features has changed, and in accordance with the changes of the disease, the medical treatment must be adjusted.
I hope i have been of help. Kind regards.
