Does Hypothyroidism Cause Pcos?

24 female, 5' 6", 242 lbs. Recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and PCOS. Taking synthroid 25 mcg, Metformin 25 mg twice a day, and Spironolactone 25 mg. My question is 1- When will my thyroid start to get under control, 2- When can my husband and I start trying for a baby, and 3- Does my thyroid problem cause my PCOS due to the hormone imbalance? I haven't spoken to my Dr since I had my bloodwork done. He had his nurses call me to tell me what was going on and I don't see him again til Dec. 29. I' confused.

Hello,
I am trying to give you some more information regarding hypothyroidism and PCOS.
Hypothyroidism is not the cause of PCOS, they are different pathologies but both of them may contribute to infertility if not treated adequately.
Six weeks after starting the treatment with synthroid you have to check the TSH level and raise the dose if it is still high. You should plan a pregnancy when the TSH level will be under 2.5 mUi/ml. It may take probably 3 months to stabilize the TSH level.
Hope the information hill help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
