Does Hypothrroidism Cause Swollen Hands Sinus And Throat Pain?

I 48 year old women, shamfully 206lbs.I had subtotal thyroid surgery Jan 2011, Surgery was due to a larger non cancerous tumor.Had no problems with thyroid prior to surgery. I go this week for the results of TSH blood test.. I have been experiencing swollen hands,sinus pain and throat pain off and on. I was wondering if this is due to hypothyroidism. I am also perimenopausal and am confused because a lot of the symptoms are the same. Will this blood test positively show what is going on with the little bit of thyroid I have left. Thank you.

Hi there,

TSH is the most common screening test used for the diagnosis of thyroid problems. Also, it is very robust and sensitive test. So if at all, your symptoms are related to hypothyroidism, they should be picked up in this test.

If the test results come out to be inconclusive, you can repeat the test after 3-6 months.
