Does Having Thyroid Cause Panic Attacks?

Hi, my name is patti, i am 47 yrs old, slim 113 pds., has thyroid disease for the past 10 yrs, i have been taking 112mcg synthroid for the past yr., got layed off from my job in jan 2011, has been going through menapause since i was 43, my life is somewhat stressful but i eat good and work outside in my garden and take care of my lil farm, chickens etc., every so often in the past few yrs i have felt weird is the only way i can say it, i wake up and feel strange., i do also drink 4-6 beers a day, i just had my blood work done for my thyroid levels and she said the tsh was normal but the other i don't remember was elevated and i said does that mean i am getting to much thyroid and she said yes but we are going to recheck in 3 months, i can't wait that long i am sick of the 1-2 days of panic attacks and the strange feelings i get sometimes i can't even drive., she knows i have a few beers every nite and she said it shouldn't affect the thyroid, ok then is it because i live with a mentally disabled man?, who is schizophrenic and consumes a 12 pack a nite and can't function without it and it is getting to be too much?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi dear Patti
Thank you for using HCM.
Your TSH is normal but maybe is the freeT3 or freeT4 that is elevated. So free thyroid hormons means hyperthyroidism,in your case this condition can be the result oh overtreatement with Synthroid.
The panic attac can be a sign of hyperthyroidism but can be even due to your psychologycal state living with a schisophrenic person.
Hope i have anwered to your question. If you have other questions i will be happy to help.
Wish you good health.
