Does Miralax Cause Diarrhea?

Hi, I had my first bout of diverticulitis in early august . I recovered , and now my GI has recommended I take miralax everyday. I have been taking it but I have very loose, to diarrhea type stools. Is this ok? I don t seem to really have typical stools anymore. Do I need more miralax? Or less? I am scared because I sure don t want to ignore symptoms and end up in the hospital again. Thanks for your help!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per my clinical experience, the Miralax is a stimulant purgative to increase the intestine peristalsis and produce loose motions.
* Though it might have been prescribed for relieving constipation at initial consultation, in the era of current diarrhea, I strongly recommend to discontinue it immediately and consult your doc for another molecule if needed for diverticulitis.

Thanks.
Take care.
