Hi, I have been taking Citanew 5mg (as I was dignosed with drepression) since last 2 months and since then it take ages to get ejaculated (either from sex with partner or masterbation). Please tell me if this is due to the medicine I am taking, is it normal and what should I do to get normal ejacualtion?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

I read your query and can understand your distress. Citanew (escitalopram) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). All SSRIs including escitalopram have the propensity to cause the side effect of delaying ejaculation time, which is the reason why they are also used in treatment of premature ejaculation. Your problem seems to be related to intake of escitalopram as it started only after starting the drug.

I would suggest that you discuss regarding the same with your treating psychiatrist. Options of changing to another anti-depressant which are safe for sexual functioning like bupropion and mirtazapine can be considered.

Hope this information was helpful. Best wishes.
