Do X-ray Results Of Nodular Opacity Overlying Lung Indicate Cancer?

88 year old Mother's X-Ray showed vague nodular opacity overlying mid lateral right lung, remainder of lungs clear except for minimal bibasilar atelectasis and/or scar. She is a long time smoker but not a heavy smoker. Waiting on CT scan results.

Is this an indication of cancer?

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Single nodular opacity may be due to many reasons.
It may be due to infective etiology, tumour, autoimmune causes etc.
Important factors are margins, doubling time of mass size. It need follow up.
She need proper clinical examination and further investigations.
Contrast CT scan of thorax is the next investigation to do. It can assess associated lymphadenopathy and other pathology.
Minimal bibasilar atelectasis can be ignored and it may be due to aging and smoking history.

Take Care
