Discomfort In Left Abdomen, Gas, Swelling Under Ribs. Solution ?

Hi I am having a lot of discomfort in my left absdomen with gas, This has been going on for a while. If I press on the area it causes me to burp up to 20 times when it is hurting. It seem that the gas is stuck there and rubbing helps to release it. I have been chewing a lot of winter green gum which seems to make it worse. I hurt my back 3 years ago and ever since I have had abdominal swelling right under my ribs. I have a hard time pushing stool out also. I do have a fibroid tumor and the last time they checked it was the size of a small grapefruit. It is located in my lower left abdomen area. I longer have a monthly menstral cycle. It has been 15 months since the last one. I wonder if I have a twist in my intestines that is causing the problem. I do not smoke or drink soda. I weigh about 219 and have a lot of pain with my back also. L4 and L5. Problems with bending and pain in my legs. 52 year old female.

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

You have multiple problems

What you all have to do is:
1. Do regular aerobic exercise at least 30 minutes / day
2. Wear loose clothes
3.Observe when you take milk or milk products whether these symptoms worsen, if yes then please avoid them
4. Avoid carbonated drinks, wine or beer
5.Avoid chewing gums
6. take black tea and add cardamom and ginger to it and take them with meals
7. Don't forget to close mouth while chewing food
8.Eat slowly
9. Take a proton pump inhibitor along with a prokinetic agent
10. Take Tablets that contain enzymes protease, amylase, lipase with meals
12. take some laxative with a combination of milk of magnesia, sodium picosulphate, and liquid paraffin like syrup cremaffin plus. Titrate it's dose to make 1-2 stools per day

For pain in back You should consult a Neurosurgeon as backpain radiating to legs means compression of nerves and it should evaluated soon.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
