Diagnosis Of GERD, Tiny And Metallic Taste On Tongue. Prescribed Prilosec And Zantac. Advice?
Hi I was recently prescribed Prilosec and Zantac for a mild diagnosis of GERD. After a week of taking the drug I started having a tingly sensation on the tip of my tongue and my mouth has a metallic taste. I can still taste food fine when I eat though. I stopped taking the meds for a few days to see if it would go away but it still hasn't. I've been off the meds for about 4 days now. My tongue is now less tingly but the metallic taste is still there. I will make an appt with my ENT this week but was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what this could be?
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).
Metallic taste may be due to tab Zantac, as it is a common side effect of this medicine, along with this it may also cause dysgeusia. It will improve after few more days as you have already stopped this medicine.
Few more helpful advise on GERD: 1.Avoid fatty meals 2. Don't lie down soon after meals for at least half hour 3.Take small and frequent meals, instead of full meals at a time 4. wear loose clothes 5. If you are overweight or obese do weight reduction with dieting and exercise
Among the medication continue with Prisolec and add a prokinetic agent also like itopride it will further help in relieving your symptoms of reflux.
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
