Diagnosed With Hepatitis B. Is There A Permanent Cure? What Are The Chances Of Contraction?
Hi, my husband was diagnosed with hepa b. As his doctors would say since his illness was not cured after 6 months, he probably got this from mother to child infection. He has been depressed since he cannot apply to the profession he liked best and that our family is also considering migrating so I am also bothered now. His doctors didn't give him medicines since his SGPT level is not high and or within the range. Is there a possibility he can be cured? And as a wife, I had already got hepa b vaccines to boost immune system. Do i have the possibility to be infected? Please need your opinion.
Dear Madam, Hepatitis B is an incurable (and a very common) disease, however most people with HepB live normal lives without ant problems. In many countries it is endemic. There is some chance for the disease to proceed to cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer, and he should always be under doctors control. However this is rare. Normal liver enzyme levels is always a good indication of liver function. Since you already had the vaccination you will not get infected. I would advice you to check your titers every several years and get a booster shot if necessary. Your children should also have vaccinations.
Take care and I hope you stay healthy
