Diagnosed With Autism. Had Hernia Repair Surgery. Giving Enemas. What Can Resolve This?
My son is 7 years old and was diagnosed with Autism when he was 4 years old. He had hernia repair surgery as an infant and it seems since then he has never had regular bowel movements. Sometimes he can go as long as a week without a bowel movement. We give him enemas but, sometimes even then nothing happens. I'm extremely frustrated and would really like to resolve his gut issues so he can begin developing at a more rapid pace.
Constipation has nothing to do with the hernia repair but is a nutritional problem. You need to ensure that your son has increased roughage in his diet along with increased water intake to control the constipation problem. Diet modification needs to be done and I suggest that have a look at the article on constipation and high fibre diet at http://goo.gl/zRm1Q.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Hi. What kind of hernia repair has been done? please give details. Secondly, your son is diagnosed with autism & also had a hernia repair. Hence I would suggest that you should take him to a pediatrician & also consider option of genetic testing after his thorough physical examination in order to rule out any hereditary syndrome & also detect any potential health problems inherent in that syndrome. Secondly also consider option of getting genetic counselling before having second child. Thanks & regards
