ok so im 14 years old , and on friday i am going to a party , i hav ebeen to partys before but never like this my friends say were gonna do alot of drinking and itl be a grreat time i have drank before ( a beer or two ) but never like we plan to at this party so my questions is i am diabetic type 1 , how will drinking affect me differently than my friends , is it that big of a deal for diabetics to drink ?????
Alcohol causes increase in the blood glucose levels, and heavy alcohol drinking may cause fall in blood glucose levels to dangerous levels. it also increases the blood lipids and cholosterol. what it all means is it accelerates the process of weakening of the kidney and retina by increasing the blood glucose levels. it also interfers with the insulin action.
alcohol increse lipids in blood and can accelerate atherosclerosis.it can affect systemic organs indirectly which is additive on the diabetic effect on the organs. so advisable to quit alcohol. and keep diabetes in control with insulin and lifestyle modification.
