Degenerative Spondylosis, Constant Back Pain, Numbness. Symptoms Likely To Suffer?

I was diagnosed 7 years ago at the age of 39 with degenerative spondylosis (crumbling spine syndrome) following rolling over a lorry. I am on long term incapacity benefit for life, although after 8 years off work I am now working again as a long distance lorry driver. I would like to know what type of symptoms am I likely to suffer through life apart from the constant back pain I suffer now and numbness of the lower half of my body if I spend to long behind the wheel without stopping and having a wander around for 5 minutes or so.

Welcome at HCM.

Degenerative spondylosis(DS) may lead to following -

-In DS there are growing bone ends ,which may unite to each other .This may lead to fusion of vertebrae leading decreased movements at spine.

-There is inflammation of spine leading to continuous back pain.

-There may be narrowing of spine foramen ,leading to numbness or burning pain in limbs during working.

-Loss of function of some muscles in lower limb,leading to weakness.

-The spinal cord may be compressed leading to loss of sensation & power in limbs.

-There are increase chances of fracture & weak bones because of excessive stiffness of spine.
