Degenerating Discs, Pain In Spine, Stomach, Colon. Treatment Advise?
In the early 1970 s I worked as a darkroom tech right next to a Nuclear Med Room. We had hot badages. my spine is now deteriating and I was told that it does not look like just degenerating discs. My whole spine. The pain at time is unbearable. Pain in my arms and legs, feels like my spine gets tired. I feel like my colon and stomache are being crushed. I haven t seen a doctor in two years and don t have insurance. Social Security has me disabled. What can I do? What is going to happen to me? Brian

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello.
Thanks for posting your query.
You might be suffering from degenerative disc disease & it occurs due to repetitive overload or stress to the disc & it increases the risk of disc herniation & spinal canal stenosis.
I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. You may get the X-ray/MRI of the area affected under his/her guidance.
The following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required ( do not repeat a dose before 6 hours) with food will help relieve the pain.
• Avoid forward bending.
• Correct your posture while sitting
• Avoid prolonged sitting
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.
Wishing you good health
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta
