Could Swollen Glands Around The Face Be Related To Sore Throat?

I woke up Sunday morning with a cold sore in my nose, and now the lower half of my face is swollen, including the glands under my chin, beneath my ears and on either side of my face. 2 weeks ago I had a sore throat that lasted for about a week but cleared up before I could get a dr s appt. Could they be related?

Hi,

The combination of symptoms of sore throat and facial oedema along with swollen glands can be related to each other in the way of a viral infection that can cause sort of reactive hyperplasia of the lymphatic system hence, causing edema over the face and swelling in the lymph nodes. Since you had sore throat 2 weeks ago, it is possible that your immunity system got weakened and thus allowed another attack with more severity.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
- Consult your Doctor as soon as possible
- Get the relevant tests of blood and throat swab for culture and sensitivity so that if it is positive an appropriate prescription based antibiotic can be started
- Anti-inflammatory medicines
- Multivitamins and minerals as supportive
- Complete the course till cured
- With such a severity taking bed rest is ideal
- Avoid contacts with people with viral symptoms

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
