Could Swelling In Foot And Ankle Be Due To Bronchitis?

Hello, recently I have been diagnosed with bronchitis and I was prescribed medicine and I felt better. But now I have been having chest pains again and I plan to go and do a follow-up soon. My left foot and ankle swells, do you think the swelling from my foot and ankle is coming from bronchitis?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query.
Swelling of foot and ankle may occur because of long standing chronic bronchitis. That condition is known as cor-pulmonale. But in that case swelling will involve both foot ususally. One sided swelling of foot and ankle may be because of deep vein thrombosis and venous incompetence. I think you need to be evaluated for those conditions soon. You need to consult your pulmonologist soon and discuss these issues.
Thank you.
Regards,
Dr Arnab Maji
