Could Irregular Periods Be A Side Effect Of Methotraxate?
Hi Iam Emy &29 years old iam diabetic since 20 years sometimes hyperglycemic; sometimes accurate. sometimes hypoglycemic&take methotraxate amp.1.5cm or 5tablets since 2 years but i have taken the tablets since about 9 months &i observe since i have taken the tablets that the period is irregular &the bleeding amount is become lesser iam not married what coud i do &is ther adanger &if this affect on fertility?
Yes MTX can cause irregular periods, but I would advise a visit to your GP. It could be something else such as thyroid problems which is pretty common with RA.
Methotrexate can affect fertility and is likely to be harmful to the baby if taken during pregnancy. However, you can still have a successful pregnancy if you stop taking methotrexate in plenty of time before trying for a baby.
After stopping methotrexate you should continue using contraception for at least 3 months, and some doctors advise up to 6 months. You should talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you’re planning a family, or if you become pregnant while taking methotrexate.
